A Pinball Epiphany

The same as most kids growing up, I loved the amusement arcades, the slots, penny falls, and the pinball.

I remember getting back into pinball during my time in the Navy, what with all that spare time on base.... Even that was a while ago and it took a trip to San Francisco a couple of years ago to re-kindle that flame.

pinball playingWe met some guys in Vegas that told us we had to see the Musee Mecanique on Pier 45 at Fisherman Wharf and I was hooked.

Simple though many of the amusements are, the engineering - which at the time was state of the art - is fascinating and the craftsmanship exceptional.

We also visited the Neptune Beach Amusement Museum in Almeda (Now the Pacific Pinball Museum) and it hit home what I'd been missing all these years.

I'm still not sure whether it's the skill involved, the noise or the excitement that I get most out of, but the graphics on some of the vintage Pinball Machines are pure works of art.
